OUTPOST โ the island, unlocked
Gather, build, trade and race to ten points on a hex island. Balanced boards by default, dice you can verify, and a coach that shows the real odds instead of vibes. Nothing is sold here. Also free: backgammon ยท dice verifier.
OUTPOST.
Build outposts on the corners, roads along the edges, and strongholds to double a corner's output. First to ten points wins. Everything is free โ there are no maps or expansions to buy here.
Everything the big island site sells, free
The most popular place to play this style of game online is free to start and then sells you the rest: a membership, expansions, extra maps, colours, avatars and coins. Its own players' most common complaints are that the extra content is overpriced, that the boards are unbalanced, and that the dice feel manipulated. This page is our answer to all three at once.
Nothing here is behind a purchase, because there is nothing to purchase. The island is generated in your browser from a seed, so a new map costs us exactly nothing โ which is the real reason nobody should be charging you for one.
Balanced boards, and the number to prove it
A board where two red numbers sit side by side hands one corner an enormous advantage before anyone has placed a piece. Our generator reshuffles until no two 5-pip tiles (the 6s and the 8s) are adjacent. We measured it over 200 generated boards: 90% of purely random layouts have two 5-pip tiles touching, and 0% of balanced ones do. If you want the classic chaos you can still pick a fully random board โ it's a choice, not a product tier.
Dice you can check
Every roll comes from a seed we commit to with a SHA-256 hash before the first placement, mixed with a seed you choose. When the game ends we reveal our seed, and the verifier re-derives every roll so you can confirm nothing changed. The rolls are fixed before there is a board position to react to โ which is the part that can't be faked, and the reason "the dice hate me" finally has an answer with a number in it.
A coach that shows its working
Turn the coach on and the best open corners are marked with their pip totals. The logic is exact rather than folklore: a corner's long-run yield is simply the sum of its hexes' pips, because every number's probability is its pip count over 36. A 6 or an 8 is 5 pips โ 13.9% per roll. A 2 or a 12 is 1 pip โ 2.8%. It also tells you when a high-pip corner is about to starve you of a resource you need to build with, which is the mistake that actually loses games.
OUTPOST is an original game. Its setting, art, names, cards and code are our own; the hex-island geometry is the classic 19-tile arrangement because that is what the probability maths is about, the same way MOGUL keeps a 40-square track. Every pixel is drawn in your browser at runtime โ there are no image files. Currently you play against the computer; live rooms are next, on the same code that already runs backgammon and chess.
