“The dice are rigged” — the only honest answer is a proof

Read the reviews of any online backgammon app and you will find the same accusation, over and over: the computer rolls too many doubles, the dice turn against you the moment you start winning, the app is keeping the score close so you keep playing. The standard reply is a paragraph about a cryptographically secure random number generator and a request to trust the operator. That reply has never convinced anybody, and it shouldn't — a good shuffler tells you nothing about the code that decides when to call it.

So this page doesn't ask you to trust us. Before the first checker moves we show you a SHA-256 commitment of the seed that produces every roll in the game, and you supply a seed of your own that is mixed in. Because our commitment is locked before we see your seed, neither side can steer the outcome. When the game ends we reveal our seed: hash it, check it against the commitment you were given, and re-derive all the dice yourself in the verifier. The rolls were fixed before there was a board to react to, and that is the part no operator can fake.

While you play, the side panel keeps a live audit — how often each face has come up, how many doubles versus how many you should expect, and a chi-squared figure against the 95% threshold. When the dice feel wrong you get a number instead of a support ticket.

Analysis, free and unlimited

Serious backgammon analysis has always cost money — the standard desktop analyser sells for around sixty dollars, and the strong play sites keep post-match review behind a membership. Every game you finish here is analysed automatically and for free: your error rate, how many blunders, mistakes and inaccuracies you made, and for each one, the move the engine wanted instead. There is no daily cap and no account, because the analysis runs on your own machine — it costs us nothing, so it costs you nothing.

One honest caveat, stated plainly: the numbers come from our own engine. It counts real shots — for every blot it walks the board and works out how many of the 36 dice combinations can actually reach it, allowing for the points you've blocked — and prices the risk by the pips a hit would hand back. It is not a neural network and it is not running rollouts. We tried adding a full move of lookahead on top and measured it over 200 self-play games: 50.5% ±6.9, a coin flip, at thirty times the cost. So it isn't in here. Your error rate is comparable across your own games on this page; it is not the same scale as the PR figure from dedicated analysis software, and we don't pretend otherwise.

What the other sites charge for

Free here, paid or capped elsewhere: post-match analysis, unlimited games, playing a friend without an account, no advertising between you and the board, and a board that doesn't ask you to register before it will let you roll. There is no premium tier on this page, because there is nothing here we've held back to sell you.

Play a friend anywhere

Create a room, send the 4-letter code, and your friend joins from any phone or laptop browser. In a live room the host commits the dice seed and the guest supplies the client seed, so the fairness proof covers both of you. Doubling cube, gammons and backgammons all count.

Backgammon is a public-domain game roughly five thousand years old. This implementation, its board artwork, its engine and its fairness protocol are original to EveryGameMade — every pixel on the board is drawn in your browser at runtime, with no image files to load.
