Old Maid

Make pairs. Pass the suspense. Don't be left holding the queen.

How to play Old Maid

Play with two or three computer opponents. Remove the queen of diamonds from a standard deck and deal all 51 remaining cards. Everyone automatically discards pairs of the same rank, regardless of suit. Four matching cards make two pairs; three leave one card.

Turns follow the displayed seat order: You, Alex, Blair, then Casey in a four-player game, wrapping around. Draw one hidden card from the next player who still has cards. Tap or use Tab and Enter to choose a card back. Any new pair is discarded automatically, then the next active player takes a turn. Hidden hands are mixed after drawing.

Empty hands drop out immediately. If you go out, the computers keep playing. When only one unmatched queen remains, its holder loses and everyone else wins. Pair counts are for progress, not points: avoiding the last queen is what matters.

New game deals again; changing the player count also starts a fresh game. Computer opponents choose blindly and never use hidden card identities.
