How to play Eight Off
One standard deck, eight columns of six face-up cards and eight free cells. Four cells start occupied. Build down in the same suit. Only a king or a valid run led by a king may fill an empty column. Empty columns cannot be used as temporary storage for non-kings. All cards are face up. Each free cell holds exactly one card. Foundations build up by suit from ace to king; cards cannot return from foundations. Move all cards to the foundations to win. There is no stock or redeal.
Moving a group must be achievable one card at a time. With unrestricted empty columns the limit is (empty cells + 1) × 2available empty columns, excluding the destination column. With king-only empty columns the limit is empty cells + 1. A run must follow this game's building rule.
Scoring & controls
Each foundation card scores 10 points. Other moves have no point cost. Undo restores the previous score and position. Safe auto-home moves only cards that are no longer needed as building bases; undo it one card at a time. Hint suggests a legal move, not a guaranteed solution. Restart returns to the same deal; New game starts another. Deals are not guaranteed winnable. “No useful moves” means no non-trivial legal moves remain, not that a solver has proved the deal impossible.
