One deck · reserve solitaire
Canfield
Outwit the reserve. Build four suits from a changing starting rank.
How to play Canfield
One deck makes four tableau columns, a 13-card reserve, a stock and four foundations. Only the reserve’s top card is exposed. The initial foundation card sets the starting rank for all four suits.
- Build each foundation upward in its own suit. Continue from king to ace until each holds 13 cards.
- Build tableau columns downward in alternating colors; a king may follow an ace. Move a top card or a whole column. You cannot move a partial stack of two or more cards.
- Empty columns immediately take the reserve’s top card. Once the reserve is empty, any card or whole column may fill a space.
- Draw three cards to the waste. Only its top card is playable; removing it exposes the next one. Recycle the waste without shuffling as often as you like.
Select a card and then a highlighted destination. “Whole column” selects an entire stack; the small labels list its cards from bottom to top. Foundation cards stay put. Score is the number of foundation cards, including the initial card; 52 wins.
Keyboard: Tab between buttons, then Enter or Space to play. Published rules reference.
Questions
Can every random deal be won?
No win is promised for a random deal. Hints suggest legal moves; they are not a solver. The separate practice deal has a tested winning line.
How do I use the keyboard?
Tab to a card or control and press Enter or Space. Select the source, then a highlighted destination. Escape clears the selection. Undo restores the previous position.
